311 Live in New Orleans Posted on July 20th
I just had to post about this. Every March 11th (3-11) has been labeled “311 Day” by the Omaha band 311, a day they’ve chosen twice to unleach to their fans a massive concert with pretty much every song they ever came up with, plus covers of other songs and the like. These guys have been going strong since 1990; you might’ve heard of them when their self-titled album in 1995 (referred to as “The Blue Album”) hit multi-platinum with songs like “All Mixed Up,” “Don’t Stay Home” and the awesome “Down;” recently they’ve been known for songs such as “Amber” and “Don’t Tread On Me.” Their first 311 Day concert happened in 2002, and they sang 48 songs if I’m not mistaken. I never get tired of their shows, even if they are predictable for someone who’s seen their shows one too many times yet it’s always awesome. They sound even better live. Anyway, in 2004 they did another 311 Day concert, this time reaching almost 80 songs, and released it on DVD last year(even though some of their songs got cut out from the release, it’s definitely worth it); I was able to get my mittens on it a few months back and also managed to get the entire set on MP3 format (Thank Marley for the Internet) and it’s a concert I don’t go to often, given the fact that the power of it is so overwhelming it’s like fucking cocaine. Anyway, I decided to listen to it today and I must say it only sounds better with every listen. Even songs I would usually jump when perusing their record albums sounds too fucking energetic to pass when they’re live. Their drummer is considered one of the best in the United States (Chad Sexton) and their bassist (P-Nut) just rips that fucking base apart. Tim Mahoney on guitar is just insane when given free reign and SA Martinez is always fun to listen to when he sings, as is frontman Nick Hexum. They’re just energetic. Stuff I don’t like to go to much unless I need a serious quicker-upper… they say that too much of a good thing is always bad, you know. Anyway, here’s the Amazon link. Go nuts. Have fun. From a user review, the setlist you’ll find on the DVD:

There are a gazillion songs from this man I like. If you notice from my music catalog I’m into some pretty out there stuff but with good reason… In this particular instance, the choice is well-founded. The guy is an ex-Menudo (another ex-Menudo: Ricky Martin) and has been doing experimental...
