Well, boys and girls, here it is: the final flyer (I believe) to this September 30th’s BIRRIAFEST, organized by the cool cats over at JSpotPanama.com. Their last event, and anime convention, pulled in over 4,000 people… an earth-shattering attendance considering that nobody supports anything in regards to alternative culture here in this chunk of land of ours. Anyway, the first annual BirriaFest, if you can see on the flyer below, will have cosplay and karaoke contests, video game tournaments of various platforms (I was talking to JSpot’s resident gaming guru and they’ve managed to find a working ColecoVision and an Atari 2600… hell, they’re gonna do an SNES Killer Instinct competition with the original cartridges/controllers!) and also a video game console museum that will punch you in the crotch with the right does of nostalgia. Of course, all of the video game/anime groups will be present as well as stores and other groups that, even if they might not be video game related they do fit in the alternative culture mold. This event is expected to pull in even more people than their previous event (a runaway success), and the mix masters of PortoDiao.com are preparing an absolutely awesome assault to the senses. We’re pulling overtime to show our best face at the event and because of that we’ve chosen to go all out, sponsoring their karaoke contest. These are the prizes:

Children up to 10 years old: Mario Party 10″ Plush Set (Mario, Luigi, Wario and Donkey Kong)

Winner in the Female category: 2 tickets for the Marc Anthony concert, slated for October 4th at the Figali Convention Center

Winner in the Male category: 2 tickets for the Marc Anthony concert, slated for October 4th at the Figali Convention Center

Winner of the People’s Choice Award: A weekend stay in the all-inclusive (free meals, drinks, dancing, beach, I believe it’s 10 pools now and much, much more) for 2 people at the Decameron Resort and Hotel, Playa Blanca.

On top of that, we’ll be doing a raffle: $1 gives you the chance to with the special Porto Diao Care Package with books, graphic novels, video games, movies and much more! all in a nifty Mario Bros. question mark box we’ve created and will be given to the winner. If that wasn’t enough, we’ll have a Mario Bros. pictorial where all kids dressed as Mario and Luigi will be able to pose punching a Mario Bros. question mark box against a World 1-1 backdrop. All pictures will be posted on PortoDiao.com and there, you will be able to vote; the winner will receive a special prize! Finally, we’ll premiere the trailer to the first PD-produced short film, the samurai tale entitled “Hacienda Valerosa,” which will premiere on the PortoDiao.com site as well! whew!
