Kevin Smith on “Superman Lives” Posted on July 24th

Hello, there. Props go to Marco for finding this little gem: noted writer/director and downright awesome comic book fanboy Kevin Smith talks in a college auditorium about many things, but the clip I want to showcase is a 20-minute talk about how his experience with the new Superman movie (”Superman Returns” now, “Superman Lives” back then) when he was asked to come up with a draft of the script that would later be tossed out. The fabled script had Superman dying and then being reborn, with Doomsday, Lex Luthor and Brainiac as villains. The producer of the movie at the time didn’t have that much of a grasp on the Superman character though, even if he claimed otherwise… the video’s up on Daigoro for you cultural fiends out there, but if you’re appalled by the very mention of the word “culture” then here it is, punk:
