Preparing for the BirriaFest

First of all, Happy N-Day to you all. On a day like today in 1889 the Nintendo Company, Limited was founded, starting with playing cards, love motels and a taxi cab service until it became the video game pioneer it is today. So, it’s only 1 week for the 2006 BirriaFest, which will take place at the Instituto Episcopal San Cristobal, with admission tickets costing $3, and $4 the day of the event on Saturday, September 30th (cosplayers will pay half-price). Now, I’ve probably talked about this ad nauseum but the Porto Diao Network will be sponsoring the Karaoke event, and we’ll be giving away what apparently are the biggest prizes in the history of the Panamanian Otakudom if I’m led by the reactions I get whenever I talk about this. The flyer for the karaoke event can be found by clicking this link, and the flyer for the 2006 BirriaFest can be found by clicking this other link here. Anyway, we’ll also have many surprises for the atendees, a raffle where we’ll give away a Porto Diao Care Package with movies, games, t-shirts and much more as well as other stuff that will tie in with the portal site. It’s gonna be a very interesting event for geeks and regular folks alike so I suggest you take yourself, your significant other and all of your friends over to el Episcopal San Cristobal, pay your tickets and peruse around the halls where you’ll have so many video games you’ll go absolutely insane. There will be games and systems from practically all eras as well as tournaments, food, refreshments and many surprises… the staples of a cosplay contest as well as the afformentioned karaoke contest will also be there so if you feel like going to Decameron/Playa Blanca then find the best singer in your circle of friends and make it happen! There’s gonna be a lot of stuff to do and buy, so please swing by and have some fun.
In other news, I know I was going to talk about something else when in yesterday’s post about the Southern Command Network I said this:

I will touch on this in tomorrow’s editorial but I’d like to point something out: whenever December 20th comes around (that’s the date when the Armed Forces blitzed the capital “looking for Noriega” in 1989) and the news crews take to the streets to ask the public if things in Panama are better now that the U.S is gone, the responses are very polarized… the subject draws many parallels to the way we do politics in this country or in any country for that matter: you’re either with us or against us. Many people think that the U.S should come back. Others pray to the Lord every day for ridding us of the U.S military but personally, I see 2 things: the Panama Canal is running just as great with us as when they had it, but the Panama Canal Zone areas are 5 times dirtier and unkept than they were when the troops were here. I suppose that for those who favor the notion of the U.S taking over again is because they put things in order and aren’t lazy or sloppy like we Panamanians are; which kind of explains why many Panamanians would like their big brother to come back and take care of them like in the good ol’ days.

I was going to rip this topic a new one today but then I remembered that it’s Saturday and I like to take it easy on the weekends, so I’m going to steer clear from topics that will make me sound like an angry, deliriously opinionated old dick until Monday. Anyway, I might drop by a few times but I might not, so just in case once again I wish you a very nice weekend.
