Robi Draco Rosa – “Blanca Mujer”

There are a gazillion songs from this man I like. If you notice from my music catalog I’m into some pretty out there stuff but with good reason… In this particular instance, the choice is well-founded. The guy is an ex-Menudo (another ex-Menudo: Ricky Martin) and has been doing experimental stuff for years… his most recent album was the mainstream-friendly “Mad Love” with tracks such as “Más y Más” y “Cómo Me Acuerdo” (my personal favorite from that record) but if you’re going to judge the guy for hamming out cutesy pop music then please look back at his catalog; I’ve come to realize that one of the records prior to “Mad Love,” “Vagabundo,” is one of the few records in history I can sit down and listen to its entirety without getting bored… the other two records that round up the trinity being 311’s Blue Album and Green Day’s “Dookie.” Honorable mention: Phantom Planet’s self-titled record. But I digress: “Blanca Mujer” is from the “Vagabundo” record and it follows the same themes most of my favorite songs have… it deals with a man who’s set to die and the woman who loves him above all things. It’s sad, powerful and it kills me every time. It’s that obscure, defeatist outlook of powerful characters that makes me gravitate to lyrics like his and from bands like The Mars Volta and Coheed and Cambria… and to some degree but not quite, My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy.

Lyrics:

New Orleans
