Desliz Sonico at La Casona, by Porto Diao

This inaugural Slip is very special not only because it doubles as the release party of Porto Diao v3.0, but it also marks what will go down in Panamanian history as a once-in-a-lifetime performance by three bands that complement each other in ways no degree of wizardry could’ve crafted. Why do I say this? Because somehow the universe conspired to allow us the privilege of setting up this event with some of the most talented individuals in Panama’s music scene, who are part of bands that are the hotness at the moment.

The Naso Problem

I bet that, like me, It’s taken a lot of you some time to be aware of the problem happening to the Naso people, at the west end of Panama in Bocas del Toro, near the border with Costa Rica. Details are scarce (in English) so I’ll give you the Cliff Notes version to put you up to speed; time is precious for these people, so any help you can provide in the matter would be greatly appreciated by them.

Though fashionably late, Butter, Flip and other fine collaborators have finally finished what is the greatest video creation we’ve done yet: the video tutorial for PortoDiao.com’s MATADOR!: An alternate reality game created to make its participants soldiers of fortune, all of them set loose in the concrete jungle to hunt and [...]

Carnivals in Panama – Day 2

After the very real threat of being very raped by a very depraved and very drunk woman while visiting the Queen Wars in Chitré the night before, I woke up Sunday morning with an insatiable thirst for carnival hotness. I don’t know what it was, perhaps it was the 4-hour drive or the lack of [...]

Deftones, Blank Ads and Cell Phone Cameras

Day 2 of my Carnival Diary still pending, I just wanted to come in here and rant a little; it’s a practice I’ve somehow put aside as of late and I’m slowly trying to get back into the groove. Without further adieu then, I want to talk to you about 3 things that marked this [...]

Carnivals in Panama – Day 1

February is a very contradicting month: not only do you have the annual opportunity given to you by Hallmark to tell the person you love that you do (and if you didn’t then oh noes!) but right a few days later you’re granted to a 4-day holiday fueled by debauchery and lack of self control [...]

MATADOR! Panama’s first Alternate Reality Game (ARG)

So, today is Valentine’s Day. This post is gonna be short because I already ranted about this so-called “holiday” yesterday; instead I’ve chosen to invite you to 2 things that Porto Diao has cooked up for you. Up in the brand-spankin’ new Porto Diao blog, we’ll be posting all of the special events [...]

Panamanians and Valentine’s Day

I want you to take a deep breath. Take a deep breath and think before you say anything. This rant is more of a worldwide scale, but Panamanians fall prey to these shortcomings so I’ll keep the focus on my fellow man; having said that, it’s pretty safe to say that a lot [...]

Cupido Must Die! – A Porto Diao Movement

So, Yamile and I throw a lot of ideas around. A LOT. Hell, a lot of the smaller movements coming down the pipe are products of very wonderful lunches we’ve had together. In light of the impending Valetine’s Day rituals, the lovely geek cooked up a site and I wrote up how many of us [...]

Panamanians and Halloween

I don’t know what it’s like in your country but I can sure tell you what it’s like here: Panama has the distinction of being one of the only countries in the world that has designed its independence holidays in such a way that it renders the month they’ve ended up in absolutely pointless… I [...]

Zombie Walk Panama 2006 – A Recap

There was a point in the evening where we were at an intersection and I broke out of character to take a quick break from walking like an undead retard when I looked to my right to see a 3 – 4 cop barricade, completely stunned, their jaws to the floor as they saw the [...]

BIRRIAFEST Karaoke Event Flyer

Surprise, surprise! The cool cats at JSpotPanama.com seem to really like Porto Diao. And that’s great, because Porto Diao sure loves the JSpot. *Ahem* so yes, the purpose of this post was to continue our whoring of September 30th’s BirriaFest by posting the nifty flyer the JSpot crew did for us, promoting the Karaoke event [...]

BIRRIAFEST Flyer

Well, boys and girls, here it is: the final flyer (I believe) to this September 30th’s BIRRIAFEST, organized by the cool cats over at JSpotPanama.com. Their last event, and anime convention, pulled in over 4,000 people… an earth-shattering attendance considering that nobody supports anything in regards to alternative culture here in this chunk of land [...]

Red Hysteria

I haven’t made it official yet, so this is as good a time as any: the Porto Diao network is only 3 months old and already it’s sponsoring shit! That’s right, bitches: the blood red network has decided to back the anticipated event… “Red Hysteria.” It’ll surely by an Emo paradise for those who like [...]
