At least what’s most commercially successful… it’s all shit. Take the movie industry, for example: “Scary Movie 4″ is the equivalent of what I shoot out of my ass when I’m at the john. It would’ve been exactly the same if I had just stared at the floating log for an hour and a half… and many “shit” jokes aside, this movie managed to rake in over $50 million bucks from it’s moment of release. What in the hell? I think what the guys and gals over at CHUD are saying is right: the movie-going public is so retarded they don’t deserve good movies.

You can’t help but wonder what the hell people are thinking when they think Limp Bizkit should make a comeback. Some of their stuff is O.K (hell, I even own some of their albums) but now looking back and listening to them after that whole “Chocolate Starfish” invasion to the media I gotta say that their music’s umm… kinda retarded. But the damage is done: I bought the album, and without knowing fueled the hoopla and hype of this “rapcore” band that’s now in the 8th circle of Hell. Art is very subjective; I know that my taste in movies (a lot of it foreign, and movies that make you think are usually my favorites) doesn’t sit well with most of my friends, but still there should be a general consensus of what’s crap and what’s not. And seriously… a lot of the stuff out there is not very good to begin with, and not just that but we still feed the crap-making machine by going to see the movies and buying the albums.I’m partly guilty of this. I *gasp!* payed to go see “Scary Movie 4.” It’s all Leslie Nielsen’s fault… I love the “Naked Gun” movies… but as it turns out, Lt. Drebin came up and promptly kicked me in the crotch with this lukewarm waste of celluloid. I also saw “Mission: Impossible 3″ because as much as I think Tom Cruise is certifiably insane, he’s come out with some of the best sci/fi and action movies in recent memory (“Minority Report” was great, “The Last Samurai” was a pleasant surprise, “Collateral” renewed my faith in digital video, “War of the Worlds” beat the shit out of the last three I mentioned and “M:I 3″ was surprisingly entertaining as hell). With this I tell you that I happen to like the dreaded “popcorn movies.” They represent what movies should be: an escape for whoever watches them. That’s the basis. That’s why I love “Desperado” and “Robocop” and “The Predator.” The original “Star Wars” Trilogy. Out of that basis then is where I, as a movie-goer, decide what to take out of these works of art and let it help me build my values, beliefs and character.

But what the fuck is up with Hollywood? And the music industry, for that matter? For “Larry the Cable Guy” to have such a massive following is beyond me. I read an interview with the lead singer from Godsmack and he was questioned about the power of music, and how the American government is using their songs in recruitment commercials and getting the band gigs to boost morale… the man couldn’t answer any questions intelligently, as if he had no idea what’s going on. I don’t remember the name of the mag, it’s an independent one and it’s online; even though the interview borderlines on persecution, the interviewer has a point. It’s a moral issue, I suppose… just like everything, just because you can do it doesn’t mean it’s right.

There are many people, recording artists, producers, directors, writers, painters and many others who have GREAT ideas and can’t get them made because the public doesn’t want anything to do with challenging, complex thinking. Not even imaginative thinking. What they want is “Scary Movie 5.”

As I write this I’m listening to an independent production of Panamanian hip hop artists called “Punto Rojo.” This album has some of the best hip hop (in Spanish, English, Japanese or otherwise) I’ve heard in years… I’m thankful for this stroke of luck, and maybe the guys from Project Daigoro will want to post some tracks up and get this compilation some recognition… but for the cover to be made out of a 5-cent folder and art made with color markers tells me that even in my country the idiocy of mass media has crept in. You don’t wanna hear what national artists are the most heard here. Seriously… you don’t want to.

I like to jump, dance, bump and grind just like anyone else… I love stupid, funny movies. But the more I think about it, the more I see it’s all about someone’s perception of what “good” actually is. To me, good comedy is “Super Troopers.” God, that shit’s funny. But I made some friends watch it and they didn’t get the humor… stating that “White Chicks” is a better comedy. Fucking “White Chicks.” I piss all over “White Chicks.” No wonder crap keeps getting produced… the numbers don’t lie, and as long as people aren’t the wiser, we’ll still get shitty movies, shitty music, shitty governments and a shitty everything else.

Sorry for the diarrhea.
