The NEW Rob-Rivera.com RSS Feed Posted on June 7th

If I were a Street Fighter character, I think I’d be a Ryu. Ryu is the all-around fighter, who knows a little bit of everything and, even though he doesn’t have a vast knowledge of anything in particular (with notable exceptions, like “Hadou” power) he knows how to use the tools he has in his mind to it’s highest extent. I’m by no means a programming superpower but I get around and can take care of the pages under my wing if need be, and I do all of the images you see on the site. It’s nothing mind-blowing, but I like to think I’m above-average. Anyway, going along this stream of consciousness I’ve been dealing with fixing this site’s RSS feed for months, since one random day many a time ago I posted something that bluntly clusterfucked the entire feed, and I haven’t been able to fix it since. I was then referred to FeedBurner, so I signed up and had a brand-new feed in minutes. I picked up my new URL, pasted it on the site and called it a day.

Little did I know that I had copied the wrong URL.

Because of my negligence and scattershot brain, not only did I send my readers to a faulty RSS feed (yet again), but I was linking to both the new faulty feed as well as the old faulty feed. I was oblivious to the fact for months, until I decided to get into FeedBurner one fine Saturday afternoon and figured out how to use it to its utmost potential and realized my URL mistake. I fixed it on the site and, as my scattershot brain likes to keep itself entertained with many things at once, I forgot about it.

So here I am, minding my own business and having a jolly-good day when my friend, fellow PortoDiao.com member and all-around programming god Jorge Yau sends me a message through GTalk. The following is the conversation we had (in Spanglish):

Jorge: dude.. sabes q no he leido tus ultimos 30 o 50 posts porke tu f*ckin feed ta jodido? jaja

me: wtf jajaja

hey i fixed that :(

Jorge: http://feeds.feedburner.com/~u/robrivera

http://feeds.feedburner.com/robrivera

es asi

try it now

me: i fixed that too

Jorge: niet.

me: fuck, pa ve

(I check the link to the RSS feed in the sidebar)

no man, it has the good url

Jorge: tas en firefox?

me: yeah

me: ok i saw it, ta linkeado al feed q genera wordpress

yeah….

fuck, how do i fix that?

Jorge: tu tas usando algun plugin pa redireccionar eso right?

me: hm i dont think so… lo q hice fue reemplazar el link al feed in the actual code

lemme see

(I get into the theme’s code, cursing Valhalla)

me: motherfucker

ill just post something about the rss

real quick

motherfuckin feed, punching my balls for months

me: yeah

hey can i put the feedburner url in all of the types of feeds? i should get something to fix the atom feeds i assume pero no recuerdo si feedburner covers that too

Jorge: yeah u can

me: si? ahh excelente, ill replace all of em then

chucha y tengo 2 links al atom feed alli… fuck…

thats the only thing i dont like about this theme, man, como tiene todo integrado tiene un poco e mierdas locas q en mi vida he usado y las kgadas en el codigo se esconden en medio de toa esa vaina

(more cursing while I edit the code, realizing it’s messy and shameful of me to have to do this kina of silly upkeep)

well, it’s fixed…

Jorge: jej i dont like that theme :P

me: i’m gonna take off the link to the comments feed link q esta en el sidebar and call it a day on that

i like it cuz the main column is really fucking wide, man

y escribo buco, if i had stuff squished together like a normal blog los posts nunca terminarian

jajaj

What all of that gibberish means is that from this point forward, this link will serve as the official Rob-Rivera.com RSS feed. Please update your bookmarks, and I very much apologize for the inconveniences. It’s not until recently that I’ve become more proactive in terms of SEO and what not, and this is yet another assist from people who care that make my little chunk of the internet much more reader-friendly. So hey, subscribe to the feed and tell your friends! The big RSS button on the sidebar is the way to enlightenment, as it the nifty button on your Firefox browser’s addy bar.
