Under Siege! Posted on September 5th
I was updating Daigoro and doing my usual overlording for the day when suddenly things started getting out of whack: first, Porto Diao decides to collapse in a drunken sturpor and screw over all the sites hosted with him. I was pissed off enough and there was nothing I could do about it until the kind folks at DreamHost solved the issue. Right around the same time though I get messages from co-workers saying I should back up whatever files I had in the computer and erase all evidence of porn… the government was in the office and they’re going to check the machines for expired/illegal software licences.
There is a reason why my office computer is running on Linux, and that’s because the company I work at got notified that they were going to have a surprise inspection “sometime soon” to check up on all software/hardware licenses. This was many months ago, but nontheless the higher-ups panicked and tried to convert everyone to Linux. Since this place is most graphic designers, they’re the muscle of the company and the muscle of the comanpy didn’t want to play with anything other than Photoshop, so these dudes had to buy over 50 Windows XP programs since they don’t give out OS demos… for everything else, there’s always shareware. Our second goon in command came up with the bright idea of installing software demos of all the programs the designers needed. Me, on the other hand… since I can do what I do using a piece of paper and pencil, I was forced to move to Linux. I think I might’ve complained about it once or twice, but now Linux and I have come to an understanding. Anyway, lots of people here have good OS lincences, but since the trial periods of the demo programs died out a long time ago there were measures that had to be taken regarding that… as a result, production went swimmingly and the faulty license scare slowly went away.
Until today. Not only was I told that I had to check if I had any programs running without their respective licenses but I also had to erase any evidence of porn in my computer. But, umm… this company produces porn sites. It does other things, but I’ve always known it as “Porn Central.” What’s going on? Of course, upon first sight of the government barging in anybody who was a manager and foreign jumped out the windows and fled the scene, and since we can’t have porn on our screens (or our hard drives, for that matter) a lot of people are stuck without being able to work. Apparently the team (a good 8 people, by last count) are looking into the computers one by one. I know I’m safe since, no matter how hard I’ve tried, I haven’t been able to get the SuDo access to my computer so I haven’t been able to install my wonderful toys. What’s gonna happen tomorrow, though?
Yesterday I saw on the news how there was this call center in the city (Marbella, the World Trade Center tower apparently… for those in the know) and how on Sunday night the business’ owner, the vice president of the company and their wives went into the office floor, took all valuables such as laptops, desktops, important documents, routers and other Cisco equipment that didn’t belong to them and vanished. They left the country apparently and when the employees came back Monday morning only to find a big fat nothing they called the cops and the media. Considering that our top manager has just as shady a history as the guy from the news story I just told you about (he’s a wanted fellon by both the FBI and the Interpol for fraud in over 5 countries) I’m surprised this jackass hasn’t left for good yet. All I know is, I should consider asking for my vacations and maybe look around for another job…!

You owe me a coffe, bitch! Nice interview in Blogspanama, though I must admit I didn’t read it all in detail. Their questions were just so technical. I think if someone were to ever interview me it would have to be really stupid/random/odd questions for me to sound reasonably knowledgable in anything.
