Yo Voto Nulo 2009

A quick tidbit more than anything; doing my daily rounds throughout the world wide web I ran into this peculiar website that, even though it revolves around Panama specifically, I think it’s a prime example of our democratic right to voice our opinion and be heard, no matter what our stance is. I don’t know what independently-run website reports on your country’s political activity (Panama has Tu Politica), but as it is with all of these, you always hear what the different political parties have to say, grossly ignoring the minority that cries a hearty “bullshit” at the whole thing. Enter “Yo Voto Nulo 2009.”

I found this on Facebook, and since the site is in Spanish there doesn’t seem to be a point in quoting any of it; you’ll just have to swing by their corner of the internet to read for yourself.

I’m not entirely sure if the people behind this website have some sort of political agenda, given that they state their reasons against voting for not all, but some of the political candidate for the Panamanian Presidency. I’ve always believed that if you’re going to fling shit at the crowd, make sure nobody gets left out. Still, a lot of it is an echo of what you hear on the streets, and there’s a video and FAQ page attempting to explain the reasons behind the initiative. They even have a Facebook Fan Page or something. Check out the Yo Voto Nulo website if you’re a Panamanian on the fence and don’t seem to feel compelled to vote at all.

this people don’t understand that if no one votes against the biggest and crappiest party… they will win. Is that really helping the country? I don’t think so.

  • Hi Rob, this is Gabriel, I’m the webmaster and well, let’s say main head of this small proyect.

First, thank you for sharing our website in your Blog, I’m very glad to know that, at least, some people are reading our point of view about this whole situation.

Well, no, we have no political agenda.

I know some people are asking why we are not talking about Endara, it is because we know he has no chance of winning this. He’s just and old grumpy and goofy man, and… we don’t believe that’s a good reason for saying “do not vote for this guy”… I don’t want to sound wrong, but, I believe he’s the same than voting null or blank.

    To Jorge Y.:

To us, Martinelli and Balbina are both “biggest and crappiest party”. It is like choosing between Coke or Pepsi… they say they are different, but they are both black sweet liquid full of gas -almost the same product with a different name.
